Residential Treatment Center for Teens 12-17
Residential Treatment Center for Teens Ages 12-17
The Ridge Maine is a licensed and accredited mental health residential program offering 24/7 care for adolescents aged 12-17 facing various challenges, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, self-harm, and more. Our clinical approach prioritizes intensive therapy and clinical programming aimed at fostering trust and engagement. Clinicians create individualized treatment plans encompassing social/emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral aspects, employing evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialetical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Clients benefit from a minimum of three individual therapy sessions per week, a weekly evlaution with the psychiatrist, weekly family therapy and several daily evidence-based therapeutic groups. Situated on a 400-acre campus near a wilderness preserve in mid-coast Maine, our program integrates nature, equine therapy, physical activity, and experiential learning to support emotional regulation and skill development. Family involvement is integral, with scheduled family therapy calls, and weekly calls and updates on their teen’s progress and treatment planning. We believe active parental participation enhances a teen’s success and contributes to family reunification, emphasizing both immediate stabilization and long-term preparation for a brighter future.
The Ridge Maine Program and Residents We Serve
Depression
Depressive disorder is prevalent among young people and can arise from various factors, including changes or abnormalities in brain chemistry and past traumas. Children, adolescents, and young adults diagnosed with this disorder may benefit from antidepressant medications prescribed to help treat depression. Before resorting to medication, our rehab for teenage depression has proven to give adolescents the support they need to overcome depressive symptoms.
Anxiety
Anxiety disorders are common among teenagers, often presenting as persistent and severe worries, irritability, agitation, difficulty concentrating, and restlessness. Feelings of doom or danger may also be experienced by those with anxiety disorders. We specialize in treating anxiety disorders, providing young people with a safe environment to manage their symptoms and overcome the challenges associated with their mental health.
ADHD
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complex condition that varies in severity and manifestation, affecting emotional regulation and self-control. Teens and young adults with ADHD often face challenges in school and daily life. Managing ADHD typically involves a combination of medication, individual and family therapy, and the development of life skills.
PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can be triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event such as physical assault, childhood abuse, sexual violence, threats involving weapons, accidents, or natural disasters. Symptoms of PTSD can develop within a month or even years after the event.
Common symptoms include intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and negative changes in cognition, thinking, and mood. It’s essential to seek professional help for individuals experiencing PTSD symptoms to ensure proper support and treatment, ultimately leading to improved mental health and well-being.
Grief and Loss
Grief and loss, resulting from the death of a loved one or a traumatic event, can have a profound impact on teens and young adults. They may become emotionally stuck or withdrawn from their daily lives, experiencing anger, guilt, nightmares, depression, and apathy.
It’s essential to provide them with adequate support, understanding, and professional help to navigate through these challenging emotions and prevent long-term negative consequences.
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnoses refer to situations where a patient has multiple disorders simultaneously. This can involve having a combination of mental disorders. It’s essential for individuals with dual diagnoses to receive comprehensive and integrated treatment that addresses all aspects of their condition. With appropriate support from mental health professionals, patients can work towards recovery and achieve better overall well-being.
Emerging Personality Disorders
Personality disorders are mental health disorders causing a person to have abnormal thought patterns and behaviors that limit the individual’s ability to function appropriately in social situations. If an adolescent displays signs of a personality disorder it is often diagnosed as a borderline or emerging personality disorder. This is because the brain is still developing during this time for adolescents and teenagers. Their personalities are also still developing.
